Dr. Ahmed Sewehli

Dr. Sewehli is currently the head of the newly set up (and very small but multidisciplinary) Misrata Psychiatry Team. He has 7 years experience as a psychiatrist in the UK, including 5 years in recognized training posts, mainly in general adult psychiatry but also intensive care psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, old age psychiatry and adolescent psychiatry.
More recently, Dr. Sewehli has been working as a specialty psychiatrist in intensive care psychiatry and liaison psychiatry. He is approved under the mental health act (UK) for the purposes of detaining patients ('sectioning') under the act. He has a postgraduate diploma in psychiatry from Manchester University, and has achieved up to paper 3 of the MRCPsych. He is very comfortable with working in a multidisciplinary team and has been regularly teaching medical students of Manchester and Liverpool Universities. Administratively, Dr. Sewehli’s experience includes being deputy chairman of the BMA (British Medical Association) junior doctors conference 2009, chairman of BMA's Northwest junior doctors committee, a member of the BMA international committee for 2 years and a Board member of GMC's Professional and Linguistic Assessment Board (PLAB) for 4 years.
During the past few months he has been involved with international media about the situation in Libya, with most of his appearances on UK TV and radio (mainly BBC News and Channel 4 news), but also ABC Australia, AJA, AJE andFrance24.
